🌳The Great Oak tree of Panshanger park! This tree is over 500 years old and was well worth the trek. We also spotted the ruins of the orangery of Panshanger House (a lost manor house that was demolished in 1954).

🎨 Something a bit different - The Design Museum in London (nearest tube station Kensington High St)
✨ I’m really late posting this (I visited back in July!) but I loved visiting this unusual museum that charts the history of design thinking + creativity from the perspective of Designer - Maker - User.
If you’re a student of design thinking this is the museum for you. I loved the section on typography + the development of the London Underground
map 🚆

🎨 The Design Museum was founded in 1989 by Sir Terence Conran, the renowned designer, restaurateur, and retailer.
🎨 Originally located in a former banana warehouse in Shad Thames, the museum relocated to its current location in 2016.
🎨The museum’s collection spans various design disciplines including architecture, fashion, graphic design, product design, and digital media. It houses over 2,000 objects that represent the history and evolution of design.

Took my little illustrator to the Cartoon Museum in London last week ✏️🎨 saw the Wallace & Gromit exhibition (I can't believe this film turned 30!) + one of the best seat pads I've ever seen in a museum (swipe for the image)

The Enlightenment room ✨✨ my favourite part of the British Museum

🏛✨ Visiting the remains of London’s hidden

🏛✨ Visiting the remains of London’s hidden Roman amphitheatre beneath the Guildhall Art Gallery (roughly near Bank). Excuse my shaky camera work, I think I had low blood sugar at the time!

🏛✨ It was long assumed that Londinium would have had it’s own amphitheatre, but the site wasn’t discovered until the 1980s when work began to rebuild parts of the art gallery (which was heavily damaged during the blitz).

🏛✨In 1988, the entranceways to the Roman amphitheatre were discovered. The site was quickly declared a national monument.

🏛✨This ancient marvel would have once hosted thrilling gladiatorial contests and grand spectacles. Today you can view the remains of the amphitheatre in the basement of the gallery for free (no booking required), and you can also view the black outline outside the building which marks the elliptical perimeter of the amphitheatre. A true testament to the city’s layered past!

Beautiful Senate House, home to the University of

Beautiful Senate House, home to the University of London. A masterpiece of British Modernist architecture that’s been used in countless films and TV series. Recently I’ve spotted Senate House in The Power (Amazon TV) and The Flash. It's also been used in the Dark Knight, V for Vendetta and Doctor Who. Here’s a couple of facts about this striking building:

🏢 Architect Charles Holden was selected to design the building. Holden was known for his modernist style, and the Senate House is considered one of his significant works. Construction began in 1932.

🏢 Construction was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II in 1939. During the war, the building served various purposes, including as the headquarters of the Ministry of Information. The building was finally completed in 1948.

🏢 Senate House was the model for the Ministry of Truth in George Orwell's novel ‘1984’.

Set within the legal heart of London, between Flee

Set within the legal heart of London, between Fleet Street and the River Thames, is the unusual Temple Church.

Built by the Knights Templar in the 12th Century, the round shape was designed to resemble the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

The Church served as the English base and main place of worship for the Templars.

Some notable knights are buried here, including William Marshall, the 1st Earl of Pembroke who died in 1219 and is often considered to be the greatest knight who ever lived.

You can visit the church today for about a fiver (£5). Just don’t mention the holy grail!
